Jade Agnes O’Mara (17 January 1989 – 2 May 2003) was an Australian radio presenter in the Perth region of Western Australia. On 2 May 2003, she was murdered in Perth, Australia. Her murder is believed to be a random crime of opportunity and has never been solved.

Murder

In the early hours of 2 May 2003, Jade was in the grounds of her flat at the Northcote Hill Retirement Village with her boyfriend, Tammo Brand, and his friend, Darren Burke. Brand and Burke were playing pool in the social club at the complex while Jade was in the grounds wearing a T-shirt and shorts, having just come from a night out with friends in nearby Leederville. They saw Jade and Tammo interacting. Tammo and Jade had previously had a relationship but had been separated for some time.

After Tammo had finished his round of pool, he went outside to help Jade find her car keys, leaving Darren alone in the complex. Darren went into the lift shaft to the car park, intending to steal Jade’s car. Jade’s car was parked on the second level of the car park, while Darren’s car was in the first level, so he made his way up the shaft intending to steal it and drive off. However, while Darren was in the lift shaft, Jade emerged from the car and followed Tammo in to the social club.

Darren then emerged from the lift shaft. He made his way quickly to the first level of the car park, jumped into Jade’s car and drove off. Darren drove down the social club driveway, turned left on Carnarvon Avenue and crashed into a bollard. He then drove off towards Beaconsfield, leaving Jade’s partially undamaged car by the footpath.

Darren’s car stopped at a red light on Carnarvon Avenue and Darren was seen leaving the car. After he had gone a short distance, he crossed Carnarvon Avenue and went back into the car park. He collected Jade’s car keys, and went into the lift shaft, where he saw Jade’s partially undamaged body. He then threw the keys into the shaft and returned to the social club.
