In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a color poster in Photoshop.
Step 1. Open a New Document
I’m going to start with a new, blank document.
Enter 300dpi x 300dpi and uncheck the “Ignore” option for the resolution. Then, click the black art board at the top of the screen.
Step 2. Make a New Layer
At the bottom of the layer controls bar, click the small black arrow to the left of the “New Layer” option. You will see the Layers menu pop up.
Click the Layer tab and select “New Layer,” as shown below. Press OK to accept the default settings.
A new layer with its color selected will appear in the layers palette. Make sure all the checkboxes beside the “New Layer” option are unchecked, as shown below.
Step 3. Add the Background
Double-click the layer of the background to activate the Select tool. Press the Tab key to select the “Paste Into.” It’s OK if you already have layers on the canvas.
Go to the “Composite Layers” menu and choose Paste Into. Use the Move tool to place the new layer anywhere on your image.
Select the background layer, press the delete button, and delete the layers “Paste Into” option from the menu.
When the Background layer is selected, the color of the background layer will be applied to all new layer and its layers below.
For this tutorial, I chose to start with a color for my backgrounds. Add some notes to the background about your poster. This is a key step when making a poster.
Step 4. Add Text
In this step, we’ll work on our main title.
Text tools: Type, Paint Bucket
Click the text tool icon at the bottom of the toolbar.
The text tool icon is the paintbrush on the very left of the toolbar. At the top of the text tool control bar, select the font you wish to use.
With the text tool active, select “Paint Bucket” from the edit menu to select the color you wish to use for the text.
The default color is white. If it’s been a while since you’ve used Paint Bucket, you may need to deselect the checkbox beside the color name to make it disappear. If there’s no checkbox

Follow these steps to start a new project using Smart Objects:
Click the New smart object button.

When you’re working with a new Smart Object, the Layers panel is empty. When you double-click a Smart Object, you’ll notice that it looks like the layers in the active document.

How to edit images with Smart Objects
If you’re working with Smart Objects, you can apply the tools and filters directly to the Smart Object. You can also add layer styles and masks.
