You hear his voice in the game because he’s been kidnapped by the woman you play as, and he’s stuck in a suit. When she’s out of the picture, he gets to wear a dress. It’s weird, but it’s the most logical approach that I can think of. It’s weird because no one would go through with it. No one would wear a cephalopod suit. The game is funny because it is, like life, trying to pretend things that shouldn’t be real.

  The game is incredibly simple. When you play it, you’re a cephalopod trying to complete puzzles, get a job, and be a good dad to your son, Andrew. The puzzles are mostly based around controlling Octodad’s hands, arms, legs, and tail, and using his basic abilities to overcome the obstacles before him. In the game, your dad has been kidnapped by a woman named Miranda, who you play as. She’s not your mom, obviously, but she is an important character, and because of that, it’s easy to get attached to her and her son, Andrew.

  Dadliest Catch is a video game created by independent studio Fireproof Games and released on Nintendo WiiWare on September 4, 2009. It follows an unnamed fathers leading an octopus around in their house, taking care of its various needs. As they do so, the players are required to capture fish, which is later on eaten by the octopus. The game’s premise has inspired a wide variety of websites and blogs devoted to and including a page on GameSpot, where the game’s reviewer declared the gameplay addictive, weird, and ridiculous.

  Previously, Fireproof Games CEO Sean Ryan and lead game developer Jason Forbes had been working on a Portal-inspired game entitled The String, inspired by several dialogues by John Norman Belam, but which declined to be released due to a lack of funding.[2] Shortly after the release of Dadliest Catch, the game’s creative director Sean Ryan started maintaining Dadliest Catch Online as a fan website with his friends, including composition Michael Daily. This simple website evolved into one of the most popular fan sites and unofficial news sites for the game. Ryan and his team began to collect social network information, resource files and artwork regarding the game, but failed to find a publisher for it due to poor sales and the economic recession.[3]
