the new firmware will allow the memento to function as a stand-alone device. it will no longer have to have a local network connection. but it will still need an internet connection to be able to get your memento’s images out of it. this is a change in the memento’s operating system, and not just a firmware upgrade. the new firmware requires a new memento app to be downloaded to your phone or tablet. a new app will be available in the google play store. the firmware update will also require that you uninstall the existing app. i’ve been testing the new firmware with my memento and so far i don’t have any problems with it.
its also possible that the new firmware will allow us to use the new memento app to upload photos from phones and tablets to the memento using wifi. i haven’t tested this yet and i’m curious what others find out.
i’ve also been working on a firmware update for my sandisk extreme pro 32gb compact flash card. as you know the card is not designed for large volumes of write data. i’ve been able to get about 16,000 shots per card, but i’ve also had a number of cards fail because of card wear. i’ve been using memento to backup my compact flash cards to a small usb thumb drive. i have a lot of photos on my compact flash cards and i’d like to have a backup copy of them on my phone and tablet.
when i connected my memento to my pc, i used the usb cable provided with the memento to plug the compact flash card into the usb port of the memento. i used a usb-c to usb-a male to female adapter to connect the compact flash card to a usb 3 port on my pc.
a new firmware update for the memento frame should be out soon. in the mean time, theres a workaround you can use. open the gps screen, and then disable the bluetooth device. open the memento configurator, and you will see the gps screen. if you tap the gps icon, the memento will open the gps screen, and you can use the gps screen to navigate to the folders you want to send files to. since the gps screen is not connected to the frame, it will not be affected by the bug. good luck with this new version, and if you have any problems, please let me know. i will update my posts. regards and good luck, tim —kerry
i have been unable to find a firmware update for the memento frame for a while now. i tried to update it directly on the memento, but it would not recognize it as a video device. i tried to look for updates on the netgear site, but they do not seem to be providing any. so i figured i would try this forum, and maybe someone would be able to point me in the right direction. i have seen a few people complain about this problem, and some have posted the solution. but no one has posted about the release of a new firmware for the memento frame. if this is the case, i have not found a firmware update for it. but, i know a firmware update is coming.
the issue we’re seeing is that the memento server is no longer doing the job. there’s no longer a web-based interface. you have to manually download photos from your phone to the frame’s memory. what used to be an efficient workflow for 3,000 photos now takes hours. i know i’m not alone in this because i’ve had several other people contact me with the same complaint. i’ve also spoken with sandisk, which is in the process of developing a new firmware version. i’ve asked several other memento owners to try it out and see if they notice a difference, and to date everyone says it works fine. the new firmware is due to be released in mid-july.
