This application was developed to be a smal demo tool that will allow you to test the following Flash filters: shadow, glow, bevel, blur, adjust color. The main window will let you modify the parameters in order to create new designs.

– Quality – adjusts the size of the object
– Distance – creates the effect of a distance between the flash and the object

There is no ‘grid’ as such, but an invisible grid set at the coordinates of the flash (in Flash’s coordinate system, the flash is always behind the scene) that is used to determine where the flash will fire. There will be no change to this grid.

You can find this grid by going to View > Stage > Viewing Controls (or by CTRL-SHIFT-V) and checking Grid, or by going to View > Stage > Grid under the ‘Display’ option in the menu bar.

You can also change this setting if you press CTRL-SHIFT-G to toggle the ‘grid’ mode off and on.

The grid is used to determine where the flash will fire, but I guess you are probably more interested in how the position of the grid is affected by rotation of the flash.

If you hold down Shift on your keyboard you will see the grid stay in the same place regardless of rotation of the flash. This is because Flash knows that the flash is set on a specific coordinate and doesn’t want to change that coordinate. Once you release Shift, then Flash will start to match it’s rotation to the flash, so that the grid will change with the rotation of the flash.

For a simple example, take a look at the following animation which I created in Flash 8. As you can see, the grid stays the same when Shift is held down, but rotates as the flash is rotated.

I just want to point out that this grid stuff is only for older flash versions. In the newer versions, the flash only keeps a “virtual coordinate grid” or something.

The Flash Filters :
Flash 8 has a Filters container that containes all the Flash 8 Filters.
The Flash Filters can be accessed by choosing a Filter Format in the format menu.
Example: When you click a Mask (menu) then the filters in the Filter Format menu will become a mask, if you click a Gradient (menu) then the filters in the Filter Format menu will become a gradient.
Filters with one Gradient, one Lineart, one Picture or one Bitmap are drawn one by one, while Filters with multiple Gradients are rendered in groups (Example : 7 parallel gradients will be drawn by 7 batches)
Filters with one Lineart or one Picture are drawn with a call to the GraphicDevice.DrawRectangle() method.
Filters with multiple Bitmaps are rendered with a call to the GraphicDevice.DrawBitmap() method.
The Filters-container is accessible after the Raw File is loaded.
The Filters are rendered in a new window with a transparent area where the user can move and scale the Filters.
The Filters are moved using left and right arrow buttons, while the distance and angle is calculated automatically.
