the network comprises a single 0.5 ghz microprocessor with 4 gb of ram running windows xp professional sp2 in the home office of the lead author. a desktop personal computer (lenovo thinkpad x61, intel core 2 duo cpu e8400, 2 gb of ram, 40 gb of hard disk drive) was used for this study. the study cameras (jvc everio hm-y2u, jvc everio hm-y4u, jvc everio hm-d10u, jvc everio hm-d20u) were configured to capture images in resolution of 320 × 240 pixels. the acquired images were then processed by erdas imagine 8.4 software and exported as jpeg images. finally, the erdas imagine 8.4 software was used to create two composite images, one for the rainy season and the other for the dry season. the composite images were taken to the field, mounted, and inspected.

for the forest-cover classification, we used the supervised maximum likelihood classification (mlc) algorithm of erdas imagine 8.4 software, which is available as a third party add-on. erdas imagine 8.4 software (which we used to import and process the images) runs on computers running windows xp/vista and windows 7. the individual images were imported into the software in a single batch using the batch menu. the supervised mlc was then used to develop a classification map based on the forest-cover data. we started with a predefined training set and then examined each image for different categories of forest-cover. the software automatically classifies all the images as one of the categories. after the classification was done, we imported each image into erdas imagine 8.4 software and saved each as a separate file. we then exported the images as jpeg format and combined them in erdas imagine 8.4 software. from this, we derived a composite image.

Flea-mite-rodent-ticks-dog-cat-human transmission cycle of viruses associated with canine distemper (CD) and canine adenovirus (CAdV) is kept in NPA and control of these pathogens in NPA is a challenging task. This study evaluated a possible zoonosis transmission of rabies and CD by assessing the seroprevalence of these diseases using indirect immunofluorescence assay. A total of 574 dog serum samples were collected from different points of the city. The sera from 283 dogs and 228 rats were collected from distinct points of Lagos metropolis. A total of 397 dog sera tested negative to both CD and CAdV. None of the rat serum tested positive to CDV or CAdV. All these results were negative to rabies, which is an indicator of free circulation of these viruses within the Lagos Metropolis and across the West African sub-region. Additional studies are required to confirm the presence of human and dog infections of these viruses.
