The present invention relates to the treatment of an oil or gas well and more particularly to an apparatus and method for treating the well to prevent sand movement into the well during the treatment process.
2. Description of the Prior Art
In the production of oil and gas by a well, sand is a common problem. Sand interferes with production by clogging the well, by plugging valves and by damaging the producing equipment. Since sand is a non-compressible material which substantially displaces the oil, sand has to be cleaned out of the well.
In completing a well, drilling and associated equipment are normally located at the well surface. The well is completed by inserting a pipe into the well through which oil and gas are produced. At one end of the well, a casing is cemented in place which surrounds and supports the pipe. A perforating tool is lowered into the well and is detonated to perforate the well casing and a surrounding cement and formation to allow the oil and gas to flow through the well into the casing. This process is often referred to as “perforating the well.”
After the well is completed, the well may be subjected to a well treatment operation. Many times, well treatments include a process called “fracturing” or “fracking.” Typically, fracturing is a process wherein sand is injected into the well to create “fractures” in the cement and formation which surround the well. These fractures usually form parallel to each other and have a length ranging from several feet to several hundred feet.
