AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. Before AutoCAD was introduced, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal.
In 1987, Autodesk’s president and founder, John Walker, stated that AutoCAD was created because the CAD industry was “so reluctant to give up their successful CAD programs”. The company’s goal was to “develop a self-contained system for CAD that could be accessed anywhere and any time”. Since then, AutoCAD has become the industry standard for 2D and 3D CAD.
In 1997, Autodesk acquired Seattle-based Beoworld Corp. Beoworld’s legacy of Bezier curve and polyline editing was added to AutoCAD in that year. Autodesk also added the first edition of ArcView, which allowed users to create 3D models, and the 3D Graphics Editor for 3D model development. Autodesk also bought the Fill and Stroke business from Scitex (Cambridge, UK), and the Text and Picture tools from Micrografx.
In 2002, Autodesk acquired Los Angeles-based RasterOps, Inc., which included the Adobe Photoshop file format.
In 2013, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT, a version for microcomputers with less memory and screen resolution than the original AutoCAD.

Category:Visual programming languagesOn Thursday night, the English branch of the European Commission published a study highlighting that “the so-called Union of Horrors,” as well as a number of other EU funding initiatives, actually end up costing the Commission money.
In particular, the study, carried out by the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control, argued that the €220 million allocated to two Erasmus+ programmes, called “Jobs for Europe” and “We share,” was “not used for the intended purpose.”
“In many cases, very little is done with the money, as many of the projects do not provide tangible results,” noted the report. “While projects are often started and launched, the results are often not visible for months or even years,” it added.
According to the study, some €99 million has been allocated to the “Jobs for Europe” programme, which, among other things, awards travel grants to EU citizens. But the study notes that these grants have been handed out to projects which only lasted between six and 24 months.
“Many beneficiaries may not be able to establish a business, job, or apprenticeship within six months and thus lose the benefit of the grant,” the report states. “Nevertheless, each year the Commission allocates at least €99 million for the initiative.”
The study adds that some €94 million has been allocated to the “We share” programme, which was launched last year to help students and graduates find employment in other countries. But the report notes that a large proportion of these grants is also being used for nothing more than putting up posters or handing out other promotional material.
“In one region, the Commission earmarked €9 million to promote the programme and to organise a major conference on the topic,” it explains. “The event, attended by more than 400 participants, promoted the initiative in one day but the Commission spent at least €100,000 on publicity

To automatically save coordinates in a drawing, go to Edit | Coordinates and click Select Coords to add the location to the selection.
