Using Photoshop to work on images

Photoshop’s work area is divided into separate viewing and working areas. The following list describes the key elements that appear in the Work area, shown in Figure 8-2.

* **The Layers panel,** which is where all your layers are displayed.
* **The Toolbox,** which contains each of the image-editing tools that you use (the Magic Wand, Healing Brush, and the like).
* **The workspace,** where you have all the tools and palettes that you need to perform your tasks (such as the Eraser, the Paths tool, or the Spot Healing Brush).

Welcome to the first of my series of articles called “Completely Linux” and are called “Completely Linux”. In this series I’ll discuss about how to use Linux and how its different from Microsoft Windows, starting from the very basics. And by the way, this is not a replacement of the Ubuntu Beginner’s Guide, which is the official Ubuntu guide. So read it before you read this.

Disclaimer: I’m not a hardcore Linux user or a Linux developer. So the articles in this series will be more straight forward and easy to understand. The idea of this series is to let the common man get started with Linux and start developing on Linux.

Today’s topic is “Changing the Hostname of the System”

If you are using Linux, you probably must have heard someone tell you that your Linux system needs a unique hostname. This hostname you refer is called your hostname. It’s what you will type in the “hostname” command at the terminal to enter your Linux system and how you will use to communicate with other Linux systems in the network.

For example you can use “mohammad-laptop” to login into your system.

And it’s a good practice to use a unique hostname because it’s useful in your Linux networking and operating system.

So how do you set the hostname of your Linux system?

1. Right click on your Desktop and select open terminal.

2. Now you need to run command “sudo hostname -F /etc/hostname” and hit “Enter” key.

Now your hostname should be displayed in your Terminal. If you see

yourhostname: That’s it.

You’re done. You can exit now by pressing “Ctrl-C” from the command prompt.

3. Now you have to edit the file named “hostname” and you’ll see another prompt “voila”

./hostname: line 2: F: Command not found

Now you need to use command “sudo vim /etc/hostname” and then you can edit the hostname and make any changes you want and then press “Ctrl-x” and then “Ctrl-c” from the command prompt. This will exit out the editor and you can exit the terminal.
