It’s been a while since last time I posted something on LinuxQuestions.org.
I’ve been working on a “big” (screen-sized) application which will soon be published. The program is pretty much finished, but only because my friend as well as several colleagues over the last few days have helped me with the code.
I’ve been looking for ways to make the program even better, so I’ve asked myself, if it’s really worth making this thing “more complex”, or if the goal is worth it?
So here are some questions and ideas how it might be done better:
Can I use the JavaFX API?
I don’t really know java. But I would use the JavaFX API like in this tutorial and make a GUI using it.
What is needed for my goal to be worthwhile?
It might require some knowhow about programming and Java, but the main idea is pretty simple:
The application asks for a time and a date and sets it on the system tray. A clock icon will be displayed. The user has to scroll down, click on the icon and start reading the time on the desktop.
If he finds it too hard to read from far away, he presses a simple button and huge text will appear on the desktop. It’s the date and time.
After a few moments it will disappear again, and it is very likely that the whole screen will become black, as the desktop icon will disappear.
The user can get back to the desktop by entering the password, as usual.
Am I going the wrong way?

I would have a clock icon just use the default icon (osx, as ios seems to have an ugly clock icon as well)
When setting up the time and date, I would have a dialog box appear with two options:
Use default, and everything set to default.
Ask user to select one time zone.
If the user selects one and hits OK, he will not be able to access the
